Hotels in Livigno Near the Lifts: Best Accommodation for Skiing and Snowboard

Where to stay in Livigno close to the ski lifts: Mottolino, Carosello and centre options for skiing, snowboard and the Olympic freestyle venue.

Redazione Funivie.it 4 febbraio 2026 3 min di lettura

Livigno is one of Italy’s most popular ski resorts: 115 km of slopes across two mountains (Mottolino and Carosello), duty-free shopping, a strong snowboard and freestyle culture and, for the 2026 Olympics, the venue for freestyle skiing and snowboard competitions. The elongated village (8 km long) means that location within the resort matters more than in compact resorts.

Understanding Livigno’s Layout

Livigno stretches along a high-altitude valley (1,816 m) from southwest to northeast. The two ski mountains are on opposite sides of the valley:

  • Mottolino: east side (left bank), accessed from the San Rocco and Trepalle areas
  • Carosello 3000: west side (right bank), accessed from the central and northern parts of the village

The main street (Via Fontana and Via Saroch) runs the length of the village with regular free shuttle buses connecting all areas.

Near Mottolino: Best for Snowboard and Freestyle

Mottolino hosts the Olympic freestyle and snowboard venue and has Livigno’s best-known snowpark. Hotels near the Mottolino gondola station are ideal for riders and freestylers.

Area: San Rocco, Trepalle entrance Typical prices (high season):

  • 4-star: 140-250 euros per room
  • 3-star: 100-170 euros per room

Recommended: Hotel Concordia: near the Mottolino gondola, good food, strong ski-focused clientele. From 150 euros.

Near Carosello 3000: Best for All-Round Skiing

Carosello hosts the largest expanse of Livigno’s skiing and is the main area for families and intermediate skiers. Hotels near the Carosello gondola and the central zone of the village.

Area: central Livigno, Carosello entrance Typical prices (high season):

  • 4-star: 150-280 euros per room
  • 3-star: 100-180 euros per room

Recommended: Hotel Bivio: well-positioned for Carosello, lively bar and good après-ski. From 140 euros. Hotel Bucaneve: central, excellent food, family-friendly. From 120 euros.

Village Centre: Shopping and Atmosphere

The duty-free centre of Livigno is concentrated around the middle section of the main street. Hotels here are convenient for shopping and evening life but require the shuttle for both ski areas.

Best for: those who want to combine skiing with duty-free shopping and a lively evening scene.

Olympic Period Considerations

During February 2026, the Mottolino and Carosello areas are the Olympic venues. Expect:

  • Increased prices (30-50% above normal high season)
  • Road access restrictions near competition zones
  • Enhanced shuttle services running later in the evenings
  • Festival atmosphere throughout the village

Apartments in Livigno

Livigno has an extensive apartment rental market that represents excellent value. The duty-free status applies to groceries as well as alcohol and electronics, making self-catering particularly economical.

Average weekly apartment prices:

  • 2-person studio: 700-1,200 euros
  • 4-person apartment: 1,100-2,000 euros
  • 6-8 person chalet: 1,800-3,500 euros

Getting to Livigno

  • By car: from the Italian side via SS301 through the Forcola di Livigno pass (closed in heavy snow), or via the Munt la Schera tunnel from Switzerland (Zernez). From Milan: approximately 3.5 hours.
  • By shuttle: direct services from Milan and Bergamo airports
  • Winter note: always check pass conditions before travelling; the Forcola pass can close without notice
