The Carosello 3000 gondola represents the latest generation of Alpine lift technology applied to one of Lombardy’s finest ski resorts. Installed by Doppelmayr in 2018, it rises from Livigno’s resort level at 1,816 metres to the Carosello summit at exactly 3,000 metres, covering a vertical gain of 1,184 metres across 5,200 metres of cable to deliver the highest lift-served skiing in the entire Livigno domain.

The name speaks for itself: three thousand metres of altitude in a resort that sits in one of the highest inhabited valleys in the Alps. At this elevation the snow quality is reliably excellent throughout the winter season, the views extend across the surrounding Swiss and Italian Alps, and the Snowfield off-piste terrain — a wide open zone of ungroomed glacial skiing above the lift terminus — provides the kind of high-altitude freeride experience that was previously reserved for heli-skiing destinations.

The Carosello sector as a whole is the more beginner and intermediate-friendly side of Livigno: wide, well-groomed pistes on gentle to moderate terrain, excellent for families and for skiers who prefer long, relaxed cruising runs over the steeper challenges of the Mottolino sector. The Carosello 3000 gondola was instrumental in completing a coherent lift network across this sector and in raising the maximum altitude available to all Livigno skiers by several hundred metres compared to the previous infrastructure.

For the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, Livigno will host freestyle skiing and snowboardcross events using facilities adjacent to the Carosello and Mottolino sectors, cementing the resort’s international status ahead of what promises to be a landmark season in Italian ski history.
