Seceda is one of the most photographed viewpoints in the Italian Alps: a long, gently sloping ridge at 2,518 metres above Val Gardena, with the jagged towers of the Odle group (Geisler in German) rising immediately behind in a wall of pale limestone that changes colour through the day in the Dolomites’ characteristic enrosadira glow. The cable car rising from Ortisei at 1,236 metres to the ridge at 2,518 metres covers a vertical gain of 1,282 metres and delivers what is arguably the most dramatic single lift journey in the Val Gardena area.
The Seceda panorama rewards every visitor, but especially those who arrive early in the morning when the light is low and the shadows long: the Odle towers catch the first sun before the valley below and create a spectacle of silhouetted rock and golden light that is one of the signature images of the Dolomites. The ridge itself, extending northward toward the Funes valley, provides a natural balcony above three separate valleys simultaneously.
Skiing at Seceda is primarily on long, open south-facing slopes that are among the sunniest in Val Gardena. The runs are predominantly intermediate in character, well-suited to confident beginners and mixed groups seeking wide, groomed pistes with exceptional views. The area connects into the broader Val Gardena ski domain and from there into the Sellaronda circuit and the full Dolomiti Superski network.
In summer, the Seceda ridge is one of the most popular high-altitude walking destinations in South Tyrol, with a network of paths leading along the ridge and down into the Funes valley to the Ranui Chapel, one of the most photographed churches in the Alps.
