The Mottolino gondola is the primary access to Livigno’s most demanding skiing: the Mottolino sector, on the eastern side of the resort, is where the steeper, more technical runs are concentrated, alongside the terrain parks and freeride zones that have made Livigno a major destination for freestyle and off-piste skiers. Rising from the resort floor at 1,816 metres to the Mottolino summit at 2,750 metres, the gondola covers 934 metres of vertical across 4,200 metres of cable in a comfortable high-speed Leitner installation.

The Mottolino terrain is characterised by long fall-line runs on open slopes that receive excellent morning sun and retain good snow quality through the Livigno cold season, typically running from December through April. The black and red runs off the top are among the most challenging in the Livigno domain and draw confident skiers seeking a more serious alternative to the predominantly intermediate Carosello sector on the other side of the valley.

For freestyle skiers and snowboarders, Mottolino Park is one of the most celebrated in the Alps: a large, well-maintained park with kickers, rails and boxes of multiple sizes catering to progression from beginner to professional level. The proximity to the Olympic-standard superpipe and the freestyle venue for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games has focused international attention on Livigno’s freestyle facilities in recent years.

Livigno’s free-zone status means that equipment, clothing and other gear cost significantly less here than at comparable resorts, making a visit to this high-altitude Lombardy resort particularly good value for visitors who plan to combine skiing with shopping.
