The Col Rodella cable car offers one of the most dramatic arrivals in the Dolomites: stepping out of the cabin at 2,484 metres, the Sassolungo group towers immediately overhead, its vertical towers rising another eight hundred metres above the summit station in a display of geological theatre that has made this one of the most photographed viewpoints in the entire Dolomites.

The Sassolungo — Langkofel in German — is a massif of extraordinary rock architecture: five distinct summits connected by narrow ridges, their vertical faces plunging hundreds of metres to the cols below. From the Col Rodella terrace the view encompasses not only the Sassolungo but also the Sella massif, the Val di Fassa below, and on clear days the Marmolada glacier glinting in the distance. It is the kind of panorama that makes even experienced Alpine travellers pause.

The skiing at Col Rodella is primarily of intermediate standard: long, well-groomed runs on south-facing slopes that benefit from excellent morning sun and reliable snow cover thanks to the altitude. The area forms part of the wider Val di Fassa ski domain and connects into the Dolomiti Superski circuit, giving access to the Sellaronda and the surrounding terrain. The cable car, despite being one of the older installations in the area, remains a valued and busy connection point within the overall lift network.

In summer, Col Rodella is equally popular as a starting point for hikes along the base of the Sassolungo and through the extraordinary high-altitude terrain connecting to the Sella massif. The Rifugio Panorama at the arrival station serves traditional Trentino cuisine with that incomparable Sassolungo backdrop.
