Snow Report February 2026: Conditions and Forecasts on the Italian Alps

February 2026 is a crucial month for Italian skiing: the Milan-Cortina Olympics are in full swing and snow conditions across the Alpine arc are critical for both competitions and recreational skiers. Here is the current situation.

Western Alps: Excellent Conditions

Aosta Valley

The Aosta Valley is enjoying an exceptional season. Cervinia (3,480 m) has over 200 cm of snow at the summit. Courmayeur reports 120 cm at 2,400 m with all runs open. La Thuile has benefited from recent snowfall and all lifts are operational.

Conditions summary:

Cervinia/Zermatt: excellent (180-200 cm summit)
Courmayeur: very good (80-120 cm mid-mountain)
Champoluc/Gressoney: good (60-90 cm)
Pila: good (50-80 cm)

Piedmont

Sestriere and the Via Lattea circuit are in excellent shape. Bardonecchia reports good coverage following recent snowfall. Limone Piemonte, at lower altitude, has adequate coverage with snowmaking supplementing the natural base.

Central Alps: Olympic Snow

Lombardy (Olympic Venues)

Livigno and Bormio, the two Lombard Olympic venues, are in peak condition. Bormio’s Stelvio run has been meticulously prepared for the men’s downhill events: 120 cm at the top, perfect piste preparation. Livigno reports 90 cm at 2,700 m with all snowparks open.

Trentino-Alto Adige

Madonna di Campiglio: 110 cm at Groste (2,442 m). Val Gardena: 100-130 cm across the Sella Ronda circuit. Alta Badia: outstanding conditions, all 130 km open.

Eastern Alps: Dolomites at Their Best

The Dolomites are enjoying outstanding conditions this February:

Cortina d’Ampezzo: 120-150 cm at altitude, all Olympic pistes in race preparation
Val di Fassa/Dolomiti Superski: 100-130 cm, 1,150 km of the 1,200 km circuit open
Kronplatz (Plan de Corones): 90-110 cm, all 119 km open
Arabba/Marmolada: 100-140 cm, glacier fully open

Apennines: Patchy

The Apennine resorts present a more mixed picture, as is typical in February:

Campo Imperatore (Abruzzo): 70 cm, good conditions
Roccaraso: 50 cm, main runs open
Campo Felice: 40 cm, limited opening
Northern Apennines (Abetone, Cimone): 30-50 cm, patchy

Forecast for the Second Half of February

Long-range forecasts indicate stable high pressure through 20 February, with cold temperatures at altitude maintaining current snowpack. A low pressure system is expected to bring fresh snowfall of 30-50 cm to the Western Alps around 22-25 February, which would be welcome ahead of the closing week of the Olympics.

Avalanche Situation

Following heavy snowfall in late January, the avalanche risk remains at 3 (Considerable) in the western Alps and 2 (Limited) in the Dolomites. Off-piste skiers should consult AINEVA forecasts daily.
